Founded in 1994, Libra Film Productions managed so far important projects among which:
PRODUCTION
Libra recently produced the long feature documentary film "THE GREAT COMMUNIST BANK ROBBERY", a European co-production between Libra Film, Les Films D’Ici, BBC, ZDF/ARTE, France 2, with the support of the National Center of Cinematography and Eurimages, Europe’s council for supporting European productions fund. The film is directed by Alexandru Solomon and the script had been developed by the Discovery Campus Masterschool in 2001-2002. The film has already received prestigious prizes in festivals such as Madrid, Pessac, Gyor and it was screened in the competition of the Amsterdam festival.
Some of Libra Film’s projects won 6 development and production grants between the years 1999-2001 at National Center of Cinematography’s annual contests. In 2001, Libra Film produced, with the support of the National Office of Cinematography, the short “Popcorn story”, directed by Tudor Giurgiu.
Libra Film also produced presentation and documentary films, music videos and advertisements. We count among our clients: BMG Argentina (the “Como Te Olvido” video – Natalia Oreiro), Migma Film (Suede) – documentary film “Bucharest’s discreet appeal” – directed by Karin Wegsjo, Daewoo (Seoul) – advertisement for the Korean market; record companies such as Media Services/Cat Music, Nova Music, Roton; advertising agencies – Mc Cann Erickson, Tempo, Saatchi and Saatchi, etc.; Romanian Government, MobilRom, British Council, WGA Architecture, PSI – presentation films
Between the years 1999-2004 Libra Film produced over 50 music videos being the leader of the independent companies in the branch, in Romania. The Libra-produced video that received the most media coverage is, without a doubt, the one for the song “Como te olvido” of the South American star, Natalia Oreiro.
The documentary film "Hausmeister", produced by Libra Film and directed by Tudor Giurgiu, about a village abandoned by the sasi in the Sibiu area, received the Best directed documentary film and the Critics’ Prize at the Dakino Festival, in 2000.
The short "Popcorn Story", produced in 2001 with the support of the National Office of Cinematography, was selected for the Panorama section of the Berlin Festival, as well as for other film festivals such as the ones in Brisbane, Bilbao,and Warsaw.
Also, the feature project “Radio Bloc” (winner of a development grant) was selected in 2000 to take part in a series of 3 workshops organized by Eureka Audiovisuel concerning the script development, the finding of funding sources and distribution.
The documentary film project “The Romania I would like to live in” was also selected in 2000 by the European Documentary Network to take part in the Thessaloniki Pitching Session, a workshop under the umbrella of the Documentary Film Festival from Salonic (Greece).
Among the ads produced or adapted we mention the collaboration with clients such as: Domo stores, Caraiman beer, Lubrifin oil, Galenique products, ARDAF insurance or the international money transfer service MoneyGram.
In 2002 Libra Film produced the documentary “Romania’s Children – Their Story” for the Romanian Government and the advertising agency Funky Business and produced the event-show LANDS (SENSOR concert at the Romanian Opera and subsequently broadcast by Prima TV) for Icon Advertising and MOL Romania.
The Libra Film productions used the following film supports: 35 mm, 16 mm, Super 16mm, DVCAM, Beta SP, mini DV.
CASTING
Libra Film was involved in casting projects (photo, video, audio/voices) for the most prestigious publicity agencies and production companies.
Libra Film has also insured casting for long feature films, among which WOLFZEIT (Austria-France 2003), of the famous Austrian Michael Haneke, TUVALU (Germany, 1997) which received prizes at the film festivals in Sundance and Bruxelles.
