Tudor Giurgiu, producer/director

Born in 1972, in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, he graduated in 1995 the Film and Theatre Academy, film directing section.

Tudor took part at the “East West Producers Seminars” held in Sinaia and Karlovy Vary, organized by the British Screen and British Know-How Fund (1994). In the same year he participated at the “Real Film Producing” workshop managed by the UK producer Rob Buckler at the Amsterdam Summer University.

He has been selected in 2003 as a participant at the “Berlinale Talent Campus” , workshop organized in the frame of that year's Berlin Film Festival and in 1997 he joined the Artslink project, becomming resident artist at the 911 Media Arts Center from Seattle.

Between 1998 and 1999 Tudor has been the creative director of Atomic TV, first local music channel in Romania.

From 2002 until 2005 he has been the director of the "Transilvania International Film Festival" (TIFF), first local international festival for feature films.

Tudor has won several development and production grants for his feature film project “Love Sick”, that is currently in production.

Producer of “The Great Communist Bank Robbery”, coproduction with Les Films D’Ici-BBC-ZDF-France2, selected in the competition for IDFA documentary festival and awarded in other festivals like Madrid, Pessac, Gyor.

Producer/Director of the documentary “Hausmeister” (about the German community still living in Transylvania), awarded at the Dakino 2000 festival with the Critics’ prize and Best Direction. Also he produced and directed the short film ‘Popcorn Story” presented in 2002 at festivals like Berlin (Panorama), Brisbane, Bilbao, Warsaw.

Director of several commercials and pop video, Tudor has been working with the most important ad agencies and bands from Romania - “Innocent Thoughts” video was awarded as best of 1997, La Familia and BUG Mafia’s (hip-hop bands) videos as best of 1999 and 2000. Best video at Televest 2002 Festival for Omul cu Sobolani’s “Dezorientat”.

Tudor directed several student short films like “The Neighbors” and “(S)He’s Alone in the World” that were presented at international film festivals like Augsburg, Valladolid, Valencia, Sao Paulo, Rotterdam.

Assistant Director for several production shot in Romania, Tudor has worked with important Romanian directors like Lucian Pintilie, Radu Mihaileanu or Nae Caranfil. Films like “Train de Vie”, “E pericoloso sporgersi” or “Trop Trad” were awarded at Rotterdam, Venice, Montreal, Karlovy Vary.

Fron July 2005, Tudor Giurgiu is the President General Director of the National Television.
